The 2012 Chevy Camaro ZL1 comes with a whole new standard sports performance and the Camaro-as-convertible model. It's the most powerful Chevrolet convertible ever, and the first drop-top to earn the ZL1 name. With 580 horsepower, the only 2+2 convertible that has more power is the $280,000 Bentley Continental Supersports (The ZL1 starts at just a little over $54,000).
The convertible, besides putting out 580 horsepower, has 556 pound-feet of torque, not to mention a supercharged 6.2 liter "LSA" V8 engine, with advanced powertrain and chassis technology for superior performance on the road (or track).
A transmission support reinforcement base, underbody tunnel base, and a stiffer cradle are just a few of the improvements made to enhance the body structure and driving dynamics. Drivers have a choice between a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission, and a choice between black 10-spoke or polished 5-spoke, 20-inch forged aluminum wheels.
The exterior sports a "Mohawk" hood air extractor that pulls air through the lower grille and out through the hood, which cools the engine, increases efficiency, and reduces lift. Large lower grille openings and a low splitter combine to improve cooling and aerodynamics. The full standard lighting package includes combining foglamps, separate daytime running lamps, and HID headlamps with halo rings.
The inside is perfectly designed to captain this top-level sports car. A fine-tuned suspension, suede microfiber-accented instrument panel, and revised pedals that allow optimized placement for track use make driving luxurious and exhilarating at the same time.
